Children naturally relish physical activity.
We encourage all our pupils to enjoy sport and we offer talented children the chance to excel. Specialist staff coach small groups in basic and advanced skills. Competitive team games are played at all levels against other schools. We recognise some children do not enjoy team or strenuous physical-contact games, and there is a wide range of small-scale and non-competitive activities. There are annual sports days, swimming galas and inter-house competitions. |
Children play games using the school’s own facilities, the large sports field, artificial cricket wicket, all-weather floodlit play areas, indoor swimming pool, gymnasium and separate large multi-purpose sports hall. Children also use local facilities including a water-sports centre. |

All our children learn to play chess from the age of 5 onwards. |
They are taught by our Director of Chess, an International Master, and there is a generous scholarship scheme offering individual coaching for talented youngsters. Concentration, planning, strategy and thinking skills are all developed and many children find a sense of satisfaction and self-esteem. Many children play for one of our school teams and proceed to play at county and international level. |
